The European Union, the Polish government, and the Polish Development Bank have approved a program to provide vaccines to the Eastern Partnership countries as part of their assistance in combating the pandemic as the European Commission reported citing European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi.

“I think that we have some very good news - we are launching an initiative that we have been working on together, the European Commission, with the Polish Government and the BGK, Polish Development Bank. And we are very happy to see that right before Christmas we are able to start to deliver on this very promise we have made together in Warsaw, because we will be able to deliver more vaccines to our Eastern Partner countries easier, faster and not to mention money, cheaper,” Várhelyi noted.

Its initiators will spend 35 million euros on the program for the supply of vaccines for the Eastern Partnership. This money should cover all costs associated with the supply of the vaccine, including the transportation of drugs.

Armenia will receive the first aid to fight the coronavirus, where it is planned to send 400,000 Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines from Portugal.

This plan was presented just before the Eastern Partnership summit, which will take place this week.

We note that Ukraine will be among the countries that will receive the vaccine under this initiative.

As we reported, the World Bank has allocated $150 million to Ukraine to fight Covid-19. It is noted that $ 120 million of additional funding will help the government of Ukraine purchase 16.5 million doses of vaccines, which are enough to vaccinate about 20% of the population.
