Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced his readiness to act as a mediator in negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on reducing tensions in relations as Anadolu reported.

“Our position on the situation in Ukraine is well known. Turkey is in favor of ensuring peace with an emphasis on the situation of the Crimean Tatars. We have repeatedly discussed this issue with friendly Russia. Contacts continue. We hope that the region will not turn into a war zone and peace will reign. Ankara stands for the positive development of processes. Turkey is ready for mediation,” the Turkish leader assured.

In this context, he informed about the already established contacts of Ankara with Kyiv and Moscow.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Kyiv, through the President of Turkey Tayyip Erdogan, handed over to Russia the list of illegally detained citizens, but there is no answer yet.

Meanwhile, President of the European Council Charles Michel informed President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky about the results of his conversation yesterday with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin regarding the tense situation on the Ukrainian borders.
