So-called voting for “heads of the republics” and “the people’s deputies” is taking place in “Luhansk/Donetsk People's Republics” (LPR/DPR) today, November 11. Ukraine and the international community have already condemned these “elections.”
The “voting’ will last from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m., although polling stations opened at 7 a.m. Kyiv time, since the pseudorepublics have switched to Moscow time.
Five candidates claim for the position of “head of the republic” in “DPR,” including provisional of “DPR head” Denis Pushilin. Besides, 100 deputies will be elected for the so-called legislative body.
Four candidates claim for the position of head of “LPR,” including acting “head of the republic” Leonid Pasechnik. 50 deputies will be elected for so-called “parliament.”
The representatives of the Kremlin stated that they decide on recognition or non-recognition after the final results.
In connection with the “elections” in occupied Donbas, Head of Ukrainian MFA Pavlo Klimkin threatened on Twitter that Ukraine and its international partners are working on increasing sanctions against Russia.
The issue of the illegal hold of elections in occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions is included in the agenda for the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs and will also be considered at the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
On Monday, November 12, the issue of illegal elections in occupied Donbas will be out of turn on the agenda at the OSCE Permanent Council session. Poroshenko claimed that Ukraine was consulting on this issue with the permanent members of the UN Security Council in New York.
