Verkhovna Rada has scheduled the election of the Mayor of Kharkiv for October 31, 2021. The corresponding draft resolution #5292 was supported by 249 MPs.

"To appoint early elections of Kharkiv Mayor of Kharkiv district of Kharkiv region for Sunday, October 31, 2021," the text of the resolution reads.
The parliament also instructed the Central Election Commission, taking into account the proposals of the relevant territorial election commission, to determine in the prescribed manner the budget expenditures required for the early elections of the Kharkiv Mayor.
On October 25, 2020, the first elections of the Kharkiv Mayor took place. Then Hennadiy Kernes was elected Kharkiv Mayor. According to the Kharkiv City Council, at the first session of the Kharkiv City Council of the new convocation on December 9, 2020, Kernes became mayor and on December 16, 2020, he died.
