On Friday, June 15, around 150 residents of Sarny district in Rivne region blocked Kyiv-Kovel-Yagodyn highway. They were dissatisfied with the actions of the law enforcers who were countering illegal mining of raw amber. As a result, eight police officers were injured, as the press office of Rivne police reports.
“The police officers who were keeping public security tried to calm angry crowd, but they started twitching the law enforcers and throwing stones on them. One of the men knocked out a camera of the police officer and the conflict emerged. The police officers were injured in the clash. Eight police officers asked for help in the medical facilities as at 14:00. There have been no reports on other victims of the clash yet,” the message says.
The law enforcers opened criminal proceedings on the articles of Ukraine’s Criminal Code concerning initial bodily harms of the law-enforcement officer and blocking transport links.
The law enforcers are conducting an investigation and determining the individuals involved in the commission of crimes. The traffic on the highway was restored.
