The State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine will track the illegal logging and quarry development by using an aerospace surveiillance. It is expected that the survey would be able to spot the vehicle of the violators as the inspectorate reported.
“The State Environmental Inspectorate will track the environmental crimes using the aerospace survey,” the message said.
It is noted that within the cooperation with State Ecological Academy, the inspectorate will get data of the Earth remote sensing that is provided to the academy by the National Space Facilities Control and Test Center.
With the help of the aerospace imageries, the State Inspectorate might expose illegal quarry development and other ecological violations; spot transport of the violators, estimate the overall ecological situation in retrospect, comparing the imageries of different periods of time; hold inventory count and estimation of the land quality.
“It will allow the State Environmental Inspectorate to spot the crimes against the environment more exact and find guilty people faster. The retrospect analysis will allow to help in which territories the enhanced control should be introduced,” the message said.
The inspectorate added that the draft monitoring is launched in pilot mode. However, it is planned to launch the aerospace monitoring on a permanent basis.
As we reported, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) observes the deplorable state of natural resources and the environment in Ukraine while no research on the possible extinction of some species of animals and plants is being conducted.
