Duda urges NATO to enhance presence in Black Sea

The Polish leader wants to show his readiness to defend the country from a potential aggressor

The President of Poland Andrzej Duda stated that NATO has to enhance its presence in the Black Sea area, as Ukrinform reported.

“It is necessary to show our readiness to defend this region (the Black Sea, - ed.),” Duda stated and added that the North Atlantic Alliance has to consider this issue as an urgent one.

He stated it at the meeting of the leaders of the Bucharest Nine in the Slovak city of Košice. Bucharest Nine (Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Slovakia) was created in 2015 under the initiative of Romania and Poland.

Duda stressed that at the meeting the officials discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine, the situation in the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea regions.

“We agreed that, indeed, the most urgent problem today is the restoration of imperial ambitions of Russia. This is the fact we have to react to,” Duda said.
