A litmus test was presented by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who during the Davos Agenda conference openly and honestly stated: “More than 2 million people have died, and we are in the worst economic crisis in almost a century. We see this in the inequality between people and countries that the pandemic has highlighted.” In turn, Michael Ryan, Director of the Emergencies Program of the World Health Organization (WHO), said: “We are entering the second year of the pandemic, and it may turn out to be even more difficult, given the dynamics of the spread of the coronavirus and some of the problems that we are seeing.” He also clarified that most of the infections occur in North and South America and Europe.
Meanwhile, experts believe that the coronavirus would not end by the end of 2021, while Ukraine is now dynamically developing cooperation with the UK. However, The Economist claims that Ukraine, among other 85 low-income countries, will not receive widespread access to coronavirus vaccines until 2023. This leads to sad and disturbing thoughts.
Is it possible then that the "Plan of immunization of the population from Covid-19," previously announced by the operational headquarters of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, according to which for 2021-2022. vaccination is planned to cover 50% of our population (20 million people), will it be a cynical bluff? And, apparently, the first stage of the vaccination plan, which is provided for January-April 2021 to vaccinate people at high risk of infection and development of Covid-19 and those who perform critical functions in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, will be disrupted.
After all, the same British edition of The Economist reports that at the beginning of 2021 three vaccines - from Pfizer and BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca - will be massively used in developed countries. And at the same time, the Verkhovna Rada is registering a bill that will allow the use in our country of only 5 vaccines against coronavirus from Pfizer and BioNTech, Sinovac Biotech, Moderna, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca.
Well, what are the prospects for vaccination in Ukraine now, if it is expected that the countries that are "at the beginning of the queue," including the UK, the USA, and most EU countries, will vaccinate priority populations by the end of March, other rich countries will catch up by the end June this 2021. The acuteness of the moment is also emphasized by the circumstance that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres boldly warned about, namely, about the possibility of the world falling into two parts, led by two economies - the United States and China, frankly emphasizing: “The possibility of a huge rift continues to scare me: the world is falling apart two parts led by two of the greatest economies on Earth, with two different dominant currencies, their own rules of trade, their own internet, their own geopolitical and military strategies giving zero-sum.”
Earlier, the World Bank predicted a new crisis for the world: the pandemic due to coronavirus has already provoked a global recession, now in 2021 it could cause a large-scale financial crisis. Finally, the head of the WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus, affirmed that the world was on the verge of a "catastrophic moral failure" due to the uneven distribution of the coronavirus vaccine, adding: "And the price of this failure will be paid with the lives and livelihoods of the world's poorest countries."
According to the president, the details of the vaccination will be announced in the near future. Well, we'll wait. Well, here's an undeniable achievement: Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov managed to boldly announce that already in February 2021 Ukraine could receive a new vaccine against coronavirus. They say that they should sign another contract soon. However, from which supplier, Stepanov did not say.
What else will Zelensky and Shmygal say on this hot topic? When Ukrainian politics is ruled not by the ideals of goodness and nobility, but by corrupt interests and behind-the-scenes agreements of representatives of the highest echelons of power. Therefore, I think with horror what people without economic knowledge and political experience can lead to our young state?! So we live, in constant anxious expectations and with a growing degree of tension in society in the second year of the pandemic due to the coronavirus.
