Dragon Capital buys Radio-Era: absence of choice due to authorities’ pressure

The former owners of the media called the sale forced

The Dragon Capital Company bought TV and radio ‘Radio-Era’ Company as NV reported.

The company already owns the news magazine ‘Novoe Vremya’ and the information website.

Chief Editor of the magazine and the website ‘Novoe Vremya’ Vitaly Sych will manage all media in Dragon Capital portfolio. Earlier, he headed ‘Korrespondent’ magazine for ten years.

Former head of ‘Kommersant’ newspaper, Radio ‘Vesti’and RBK-Ukraine website Valery Kalnysh will be a manager of ‘Radio-Era FM’ project.

‘The investors of Dragon Capital do not interfere in the policy of the media and they are sure that the radio station will show the high journalist’s standards’, the message said.

‘We are glad that the media-portfolio of the company is enlarged by the oldest talk radio station of the country with great history and we do not plan the revolutionary changes at the radio station yet’, Chief Executive Officer of Dragon Capital Tomas Fiala claimed.

A new owner of the radio station plans to increase the investment in the equipment of the ‘Radio-Era FM’ in the near future.

At the same time the former owners of ‘Radio-Era’ claim about the forced sale of the company due to the pressure from authorities. It is claimed at the website of the TV and radio company.

‘We all see that the authorities continue the systematic attack on the freedom of speech that is expressed in the constant threats to the journalists, groundless checks, arrest of journalist Kotsaba, the closing of the Radio ‘Vesti’, sustained arraignments and insinuations around the TV Channels 112 Ukraine and NewsOne, searches in ‘1+1’, arson of ‘Inter’, pressure on the TV Channel Zik ant its owners, prosecution of the ‘’ website and ban of the social networks’, the statement said.

The former owners of ‘Radio-Era’ note that their company suffered the same fate.

‘The process of pressure on us ended unexpectedly. The sale of the share of stocks to the investor with the American origin who can provide the protection of the right for the independent and professional journalism from the point of view of international judicial and political practice.  The final decision was made in the moment when we were absolutely confident that the new owners will keep the main values and principles of our mass media’, the TV and radio ‘Radio-Era’ Company reported.
