War veteran of Donbas, Hero of Ukraine, lieutenant colonel Oleksandr Petrakovsky, seriously wounded 7 years ago, died at the age of 33. This was announced by the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Army Academy Head Pavlo Tkachuk on Facebook.
"After a long struggle for life, a graduate of the National Army Academy, Hero of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Petrakovsky, died," Tkachuk stated.
According to him, an intelligence group under the command of Petrakovsky ensured the passage of an equipment convoy of the Armed Forces and the forces of the Aidar volunteer battalion to the Luhansk airport on July 20, 2014. Then the Ukrainian soldiers found an ambush in the area of the Shchastia city and entered the battle, which made it possible to ensure the passage of the column by an alternate route. During the battle, Petrakovsky received a severe head injury, but continued to lead the group and carried the wounded to a safe place. For this, by the decree of the President of Ukraine dated December 4, 2014 No. 918/2014, the officer was given the highest award - the title of "Hero of Ukraine".
The battle had grave consequences for Petrakovsky. He fell into a coma, underwent dozens of complex surgical operations, long and expensive rehabilitation. Relatives and friends of the fighter, dozens of benefactors and volunteers fought for his life. But it was not possible to save the hero from death.
