The 18th Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival has announced the winners. For the second time, not only Kyiv residents but also the whole of Ukraine watched as many as 105 films, according to the festival's website.

The list of winners is:

DOCU/WORLD

DOCU/WORLD is the international competition of feature- and medium-length documentaries which are longer than 30 minutes. It presents creative documentaries that reveal human rights, ethic and social issues with unique artistic vision.

MAIN PRIZE: Taming the Garden / Salomé Jashi / Switzerland, Germany, Georgia / 2021, 90’

SPECIAL MENTION: There Will Be No More Night / Éléonore Weber / France / 2020 / 76’

DOCU/UKRAINE

The DOCU/UKRAINE National Competition includes five films which look for answers to eternal questions through the lens of their protagonists’ personal search.

MAIN PRIZE: Ivan's Land / Andrii Lysetskyi / Ukraine / 2020 / 85’

SPECIAL MENTION: Salt from Bonneville / Simon Mozgovy / Ukraine, Poland, Georgia / 2020 / 74’

DOCU/SHORT

DOCU/SHORT is the international competition of short documentaries which are up to 30 minutes long.

MAIN PRIZE: AN OCEAN / Paul Scheufler / Germany / 2021 / 19’

SPECIAL MENTION: The White Death of the Black Wizard / Rodrigo Ribeiro / Brazil / 2020 / 10’

THE RIGHTS NOW! AWARD

The RIGHTS NOW! award is given to creative documentary films which explore the contemporary world and make a significant contribution to the discussion of human dignity, freedom and equality. Eight films from all the film programmes of Docudays UA have been nominated for it.

MAIN PRIZE: A Colombian Family / Tanja Wol Sørensen / Denmark / 2020 / 80’

SPECIAL MENTION: Unseen / Maia Martiniak / Slovakia / 2018 / 87’

SPECIAL MENTION: Things We Dare Not Do / Bruno Santamaría Razo / Mexico / 2020 / 71’

CURRENT TIME AWARD

The television platform Current Time TV has rewarded its favorite with a $5,000 prize.

STUDENT JURY AWARD

Every year, the Docudays UA has a Student Jury which chose its best film.

MAIN PRIZE: Petit Samedi / Paloma Sermon-Daï / Belgium / 2020 / 75’

SPECIAL MENTION: Salt from Bonneville / Simon Mozgovy / Ukraine, Poland, Georgia / 2020 / 74’

SPECIAL MENTION: Unseen / Maia Martiniak / Slovakia / 2018 / 87’

ANDRIY MATROSOV AWARD

Every year, the festival's team rewards one film among the competition's participants. Andriy Matrosov Award has been founded by Docudays UA organizers in the memory of Andriy Matrosov, the Festival’s producer who died in a car accident on 16 February 2010.

MAIN PRIZE: As Far As Possible / Ganna Iaroshevych / Ukraine / 2020 /71’

SPECIAL MENTION: Roses. Film-Cabaret / Irena Stetsenko / Ukraine / 2021, 77’

THE AUDIENCE AWARD

The Audience Award winner was determined based on an audience survey. The spectators have chosen their favourite film among all participants of the competition programme. So, the winner is:

As we reported, Anna Dudko's film Deep Water was selected to compete at the World Festival of Animated Films in Zagreb.
