The District Administrative court of Kyiv started proceedings on the lawsuit demanding to ban the Party of Regions in Ukraine, as the court’s press service informs.

“The District Administrative court of Kyiv started proceedings based on the lawsuit from a public organization against the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. The claimant asks the court to find the inaction of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine unlawful based on the letter “On Ministry of Justice of Ukraine refusing to appeal to the District Administrative court of Kyiv to ban the activity of the Party of Regions political party,” the press service writes.

Moreover, the claimant demands that the Ministry of Justice addresses the court to ban the activity of the Party of Regions in Ukraine, and to cancel its official registration. The court hearing is scheduled for December 6.

The Party of Regions is a centrist pro-Russia political party created in Ukraine in 1997. It is infamously known as the party of Ukraine’s ex-president Viktor Yanukovych. Since February 2014, the party has not competed in elections and most of its representatives have left the party to continue their careers elsewhere.
