The activist is in hospital, police opened criminal case

Police opened criminal proceeding in connection with the beating of Odesa activist Svetlana Podpalaya. This was reported on Facebook by Ruslan Forostyak, adviser to the main department of National Police in Odesa region. 

According to him, the proceeding was opened under article 125 of the Criminal Code (deliberate infliction of light bodily injury).

Forostyak specified that operative and investigation unit is seizing video from surveillance cameras where the attack occurred. 

He added that the investigation is under personal control of National Police leadership.

"Law enforcement officers are taking it seriously enough, everybody understands how important it is to establish those involved and motives in the first place," he wrote.

At the same time, activist Vladislav Balinsky told that Podpalaya has closed craniocerebral injury, bruise of soft tissues and periosteum of the frontal part, extensive hematoma. She is in the hospital.

He noted that two people waited for Svetlana at the street at 1:30-2 p.m. One stayed on the running scooter, another called Svetlana, grabbed her arm and sprayed her face. Then he took her in the corner of arched entrance and started beating her on the face with fists. After Svetlana fell, the criminal ran to his comrade on the moped, jumped and they fled in an unknown direction. Mobile phone, backpack and money were not taken, Balinsky specified.

He also informed that Podpalaya is a mother of three children.
