Denisova asks Poroshenko to exchange Russian sailors for Ukrainian

According to her, the rights of the illegally detained Ukrainians are violated in annexed Crimea

Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmyla Denisova appealed to President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to consider the possibility of the exchange of the “Nord” crew members for Ukrainian sailors of “YMK-0041” as her website reported.

“According to my information, captain is detained in Simferopol remand center and other crew members are the witnesses and cannot leave the territory of the Crimean peninsula as their Ukrainian passports for travel abroad were confiscated. The health state of the sailors is extremely unsatisfactory. The psychological pressure and intimidation by the Federal Security Service of Russia are put on them,” Denisova claimed.

Taking into account the mentioned information, she appealed to Petro Poroshenko with a request to consider the exchange of the “Nord” crew members for Ukrainian sailors of “YMK-0041”.

On May 4, Ukrainian fishing vessel YMK-0041 (home port Ochakov) was detained in the waters of the Black Sea for the illegal catch of the flounder. The personnel consisting of five Ukrainians was taken to Crimea as Russia’s FSB Border Guard Service claimed.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry expressed the protest against the detention of the Ukrainian boat by FSB and demanded to release the sailors.

The Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea investigates the detention of Ukraine's fishing vessel by Russia.

The criminal proceeding is opened in Russia against a citizen of Ukraine, captain of fishing vessel YMK-0041 detained in the Black Sea on May 16.

As 112 International reported, nine members of the crew of the Nord fishing vessel, detained in the Sea of Azov by Ukrainian border guards, tried to travel to the territory of the Russian Federation with the help of representatives of the Consulate General of Russia.

The Nord ship was stopped in 15 miles from the Obytichna sandspit. The inspection defined that the ship was registered in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Besides, the members of the crew violated the order of the exit from the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. All of them had the so-called Russian passports, issued in Kerch. Later, the court arrested the detained ship. Ukrainian border guards detained Volodymyr Gorbenko on April 4.

As we reported earlier, the ports, located on the territory of Crimea (Yevpatoria, Kerch, Sevastopol, Feodosia, Yalta) were shut down by the order of the Cabinet of Ministers on Ukraine (Some question on the functioning of marine and river transport) and according to the order of the Ministry of Infrastructure (on shut down of sea ports).

As we reported earlier, Horbenko was arrested until May 31, 2018. At the same time, the court provided a possibility to bail him out for $1, 354, and his lawyers used this opportunity.

On April 12, Russia threatened to 'respond' to the arrest of the Nord vessel in Ukraine.
