The defense of Viktor Ageev, the Russian army serviceman sentenced to ten years in prison for the participation in the terrorist organization filed an appeal. Viktor Chevguz, the advocate of the Russian claimed this as Ukrainian News reported.
‘I filed an appeal’, the advocate claimed. As the result, the sentence of Ageev did not come into force when 30-days-term after the pronouncement of the verdict.
Supposedly, the second consideration will take place in the mid of March.
According to Chevguz, ten years of the imprisonment for Ageev is the excessive term. He asks to reclassify the accusation from the terrorist activity to the participation in the illegal armed formation. At the same time, he does not deny the accusation of the illegal storage of the arms and ammunition.
Also, Chevguz expressed the confidence that his client will be pardoned by the order of Petro Poroshenko, the president of Ukraine despite the results of the appeal due to the fact that Ageev was in the list of the prisoners’ exchange with Russia.
‘He will be pardoned by the order of the president, it is definitely so’, Chevguz is sure.
He called the three accomplices of Ageev as an example. They were the citizens of Ukraine, became the militants of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic and they were pardoned at the end of December 2017 and exchanged.
Viktor Ageev was detained in Donbas and he confirmed that he was in the military of the Russian Armed Forces. At the moment Ageev is detained at the Starobelsk detention center. His mother came to Ukraine and was allowed a meeting with her son. He is accused of terrorism and faces 8-15 years of the imprisonment.
