Ukraine’s Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak believes West-2017 military drills of Russia and Belarus at Ukrainian border is a threat. He said this during the meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, reports the press service of the ministry.
“Upcoming military training West-2017 by Russian Federation is extremely powerful. It can be used to start aggression not only against Ukraine, but against any European country bordering Russia. NATO Secretary General told about the treats they see and announced that NATO group in Eastern Europe will be reinforced. Of course, we will also react adequately on this training,” he said.
Minister noted Ukraine will be ready to repel possible aggression.
“A huge transfer of troops and maneuvers are scheduled. 4,000 of cars were ordered only for the transfer of personnel. This is a very large grouping, and, of course, holding such exercises on the border with Ukraine is a threat," the head of the defense department added.
As it was reported earlier NATO will strengthen presence in Eastern Europe during West 2017 drills. The joint Russian-Belarusian exercise is slated for autumn in Belarus; it will involve over 100,000 servicemen.
