Lawyers will appeal to the court decision on the preventive measure of a 2-month arrest of ex-MP Oleksandr Shepelev, accused of embezzlement, state treason, and attempted murder, as his lawyer Denis Anikin said, according to Unian.

“We will appeal, we think the court decision is completely unlawful and ungrounded. We were proving this in the court. We consider this as pressure from the side of the military prosecution,” Anikin emphasized.

“We justified our proof by corresponding documents that the court essentially didn’t take into account,” the lawyer added. He believes there are clear signs of political prosecution in this case. Anikin also said that the court didn’t take into account the arguments of the defence that the suspicion is ungrounded and the inadmissibility of testifying by the prosecution.

As we reported earlier, former MP Shepelev was detained on Feb. 8. When searching him, the police found an ID badge of the so-called ministry of state security of the “DNR”.

Apart from that, he had been previously suspected of an attempted murder and embezzling state funds.
