Today is a debate day in Ukraine. It’s the last day for pre-election campaigning.

There are two presidential candidates – incumbent President Petro Poroshenko and a contending comedian Volodymyr Zelensky.

10,000 police officers, National Police officers and State Emergency Service workers were involved in security provision.

The debates shall held in two rounds – first at Kyiv’s Olympic Stadium at 7 p.m., second – in the studio of Suspilne TV at 9 p.m., both broadcasted live throughout the country.

Holding pre-election debate is provided for electoral legislation of Ukraine. According to the Law “On the Election of the President of Ukraine” TV debates shall be held on the last Friday before the day of repeat voting between 19:00 and 22:00 live.

Official debates should be held in the studio of the public broadcaster in specified time strictly. Preparation and organization of the debates shall cost Suspilne TV over $220 000. The debates at the Olympic Stadium shall be paid by the campaign funds of the candidates as a form of pre-election agitation. The exact sum was not published. Earlier, Zelensky’s election campaign team voiced the sum of $220 000 as well.
