On the second day of continuous Balakliya disaster in Kharkiv region, intensity of blasts went down on the arms arsenal a little bit, which allowed to localize the fire. More than 100 military men continue patrolling the city and the near by villages. Another 300 officers from the Kharkiv National Air Forces University were involved to improve the work of coordinative staff.
It was also reported that dead woman was found in one of the houses near Balakliya depot. A woman born in 1951 was found under the destroyed constructions of the house during the inspection of the residential area late at night on Thursday. According to the Ministry of Health, a woman of 1962 got a shrapnel wound in her head in the result of the shell hit in the house.
More than 20 000 people were evacuated form the area of possible impact zone. The evacuation centers were created, food, water and medical treatment were organized. Evacuation measures still go on. All activity of the objects of critical infrastructure was suspended.
Later on March 24 Defense Ministry announced the start of liquidation of the blasts consequences at the ammunition storages in Balakliya. Over a thousand military officers together with State Emergency Service officers and law enforcers were involved in localization of the situation. Teams with special equipment were deployed at the scene, military doctors have been on duty since yesterday. Balakliya district administration head Stepan Maselsky informed that residents gradually started returning to the city in the morning.
112 news agency also shot a video showing fire in Balakliya depot from the quadcopter.
Finally, Defense Ministry reported that fire was completely extinguished, HQ on managing the consequences of explosions in Balakliya is working to assess damages caused by the disaster and dealing with the consequences. It was also informed that firemen managed to tackle the blaze just this morning, currently they are making their way to storage facilities in order to conduct normal inventory, count, estimate the figures due to this disaster as of now.
