The military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) prevented the employment of Crimean citizen with Russian citizenship and ties with the special services of the country-aggressor at the responsible position at the Defense Ministry, as the SBU reported.
According to the special service, during a few years of the temporary annexation of the Crimean peninsula, Ukrainian lived abroad. Right after the events of 2014, a woman returned to Crimea and got the Russian passport supposedly for registration of real estate.
Afterward, she came to Kyiv. However, she did not want to settle in mainland Ukraine; she had no permanent working place and sources of income. At this time, she visited Russia and temporarily annexed the peninsula very often and her contacts with the representatives of the special services of the country-aggressor were spotted.
After one of such visits, a woman decided to be employed in the Defense Ministry of Ukraine. She claimed one of the leadership positions in the detachment of the department of public procurement of the ministry. This work provides access to the secret information in the defense sphere and direct communication with the top-officials of NATO countries-members.
The contender succeeded to pass a few qualifying stages for final application for the position; however, the Security Service held the check, which established the circumstances are incompatible with the state service in the Defense Ministry. A woman ‘forgot’ to mention that she has Russian citizenship, acquaintances from FSB and did not report the content of the talks with them. The SBU workers held a talk with her and warned of criminal responsibility for state treason.
Earlier, the counterintelligence of Ukraine's SBU (State Security Service) has busted and detained a Ukrainian army man who worked for Russian special services, collecting data about the Ukrainian military units in the combat zone in Donbas.
