Crimean Tatar activist Edem Bekirov may be transferred from the medical unit of Simferopol remand center to the house arrest on the results of the medical examination as Krym.Realii reported citing his lawyers Alexey Laden and Isliam Velilyaev.

“When we applied to the administration of the remand center on the holding of the repeat medical report we attached our independent, medical report. It says that Bekirov has illness in neurology and it prevents his stay in the remand center. We express the cautious optimism that after another examination the doctors will establish right diagnosis and will give proper conclusion (on the impossibility to keep Bekirov in the remand center, -,” Laden noted.

In his turn, Velilyaev assessed positively the possibility of the house arrest for Bekirov considering his illness in neurology.

According to him, at the first court session, the defense and prosecution will appeal for the change of the restrictive measure of Bekirov for house arrest.

The hospitalization of Bekirov is planned on August 27. According to Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova, Bekirov will be transferred to Republican Neurology Hospital for further examination, which will last for 7-8 days.

On August 8, the judge of Supreme Court of Republic of Crimea controlled by Kremlin extended the term of detention of Edem Bekirov until October 11, 2019.

As it was reported, Crimean Tatar activist Bekirov, who was illegally detained in the Simferopol pretrial detention center, was forced to testify against Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, national leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev, and director of the ATR TV channel Lenur Islyamov.

Bekirov is one of the Crimean Tatar civil activists in the village of Novo-Oleksiyivka. His wife Gulnara is a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.

He is accused under Part 2 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons, their main parts, ammunition).
