Occupational “Supreme Court of Crimean Republic” could not define which local court will consider the criminal case of Edem Bekirov in merits – “Krasnoperekopsky District Court Crimean Republic” or “Central District Court of Simferopol”. As Ukraine’s Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova reported on Facebook, the court session was postponed on August 20 at 2 pm.
“Edem Bekirov, who is being kept in Simferopol prison, had to participate in the court session through a video conference. He had to move to a special room for that. He couldn’t do that due to backache,” Denisova said.
Two days ago, Bekirov could not meet with his lawyer for the same reason.
She stressed that Bekirov might not stand transportation to Krasnoperekopsk in such condition.
She noted that the pressure of the international community upon Russia can save the life of the Crimean Tatar.
On August 8, the judge of Supreme Court of Republic of Crimea controlled by Kremlin extended the term of detention of Edem Bekirov until October 11, 2019.
As it was reported, Crimean Tatar activist Bekirov, who was illegally detained in the Simferopol pretrial detention center, was forced to testify against Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, national leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev, and director of the ATR TV channel Lenur Islyamov.
Bekirov is one of the Crimean Tatar civil activists in the village of Novo-Oleksiyivka. His wife Gulnara is a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.
He is accused under Part 2 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons, their main parts, ammunition).
