Scientists from the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics conducted research and identified 11 different variants of the Delta strain in Ukraine, the press service of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics reports.

"11 different variants of the Delta strain have been identified in Ukraine. Almost 60% of the samples are the "mother" version of the Delta B. 1.617.2, the so-called Indian one. At the same time, scientists have identified 10 other variants of the Delta strain, originating from the United States, Britain and other European countries, as well as from Africa," the statement reads.

Thus, in October, scientists studied 75 samples collected from patients aged 13 to 85 years in late September. Almost all of these patients (95.6%) were hospitalized with moderate to severe disease. Samples were taken from patients with coronavirus in different regions of the country.

The study suggests that Ukraine is completely covered by the Delta strain, the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics added.

As it was reported, according to the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS), the risk of reinfection with the dominant Delta variant of coronavirus is 74% higher than with the previous Alpha variant.
