In Ukraine, Covid-19 ranks third among the causes of death after cardiovascular disease and cancer, Deputy Head of the Ptoukha Institute for Demography and Social Studies of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine Oleksandr Hladun stated, the press center of NAS reports.
"The reduction of the Ukrainian population is also affected by the pandemic, although final estimates can be made only after its completion. We are currently in the process, but the figures already show that the pandemic is contributing to mortality. In the structure of causes of death, Covid-19 ranks third after cardiovascular disease and cancer," the statement reads.
It is noted that during the pandemic, people die for other reasons, because hospitals cannot provide timely care, and patients cannot get to medical facilities.
As it was reported, 509 people died of Covid-19 on December 2. For a long time Ukraine has been in the list of leading countries in terms of daily mortality from the virus. On November 29, Ukraine took the 2nd place (400 cases per day) in this ranking. During the entire pandemic in Ukraine, more than 87 thousand people have died from Covid-19.
