Kyiv District Administrative Court opened the proceedings on the lawsuit of the ex-chairman of Odesa regional administration and leader of Movement of New Forces Party Mikheil Saakashvili. This was reported by the press service of the District Administrative Court.
According to the report, the plaintiff asks the court to declare illegal the actions of the Main Directorate of the State Migration Service of Ukraine in Lviv region and acting head of the Chief Department of the State Migration Service in Lviv region Ivanna Ivanochko regarding the drawing up and sending of a letter signed by Ivanochko dated September 29, 2017.
The court hearing will be held on November 30.
As we reported earlier, President of Ukraine signed the degree on revoking Saakashvili’s citizenship this July, due to the false information that the latter gave while applying. In particular, Saakashvili didn’t specify he was wanted in Georgia.
Last month, Ukraine’s prosecutor general’s office began checking Georgia’s request to extradite Mikheil Saakashvili, which reached the Ukrainian authorities on September 5. Georgian prosecutor general’s office charges the ex-president with embezzlement and power abuse.
Mikheil Saakashvili had also asked for political asylum in Ukraine, which he was refused.
Ex-president of Georgia and former Odesa governor Mikheil Saakashvili says he has received the documents on revoking his citizenship.
“I’m going to court today or tomorrow. We’ve finally received the documents from the Presidential Administration concerning the citizenship. And we will appeal my revoked citizenship,” he said.
"I appealed against the decree of the President on deprivation of citizenship in court: if you want to go to court with me - let's go together to remind that I'm not alone," Saakashvili said.
According to him, Ukrainian citizenship is not necessary for him in order to obtain any post.
