The former mayor of Toretsk Volodymyr Sleptsov was released from custody the previous day by a court decision and left the Bakhmutsk detention center where he had previously been. The coordinator of the Media Initiative for Human Rights Olha Reshetylova writes about this on Facebook.
According to Reshetylova, the decision to release Sleptsov was made by the district court of the Donetsk region.
As it was reported earlier Sleptsov is suspected of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 258-3 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization) and Part 2 of Article 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. According to the investigation conducted by the Security Service investigators in Donetsk region, Sleptsov is associated with the organization and conduct of an illegal referendum on the territory of Toretsk city aiming to declare state independence of “DNR” terrorist organization.
Sleptsov was previously taken into custody by a court decision, and the deputies of Toretsk City Council Torecki expressed to him their distrust.
