Mostysky district court of Lviv region found Mikheil Saakashvili guilty of illegal crossing of Ukraine’s border, and obliged him to pay a $130 fine, as Interfax-Ukraine reports.
Saakashvili is also to pay the court fee of $12.
The hearing began at 11 am, then the judge announced a break, and announced the court’s decision at 9 pm. Four witnesses gave testimony on the case: one activist and three border guard officers. The video of Saakashvili’s crossing of the border was also shown.
The decision can be appealed against in a higher court.
As it was reported earlier, the former Georgian leader illegally crossed the Ukrainian border via Shegyni checkpoint, breaking the law due to incorrect completion of border crossing procedure.
The crowd of at least 60 people, including five MPs, literally carried Saakashvili beyond the checkpoint, getting into a fight with law enforcers. The police and the state security service investigate the incident.
However, Prosecutor General of Ukraine said Saakashvili would not be expelled from Ukraine or arrested.
