The court of Ukraine checked the legitimacy of actions of the military prosecutors and investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) during a search of the Russian tanker NEYMA on July 25 and ruled to arrest it along with all the documents found during the search. This was announced by Chief Military Prosecutor Anatoly Matios.
“The court seized the said vessel along with the documents found during the search of tanker upon consideration of the motion,” Matios wrote.
In addition, according to him, the Russian media are spreading false information about alleged illegal conduct of investigative actions on this vessel by law enforcement officers of Ukraine without the permission of the Russian consul.
“After passing through border and customs control on the territory of Ukraine, a vessel is considered as such that has an open border. According to norms of existing international agreements ratified both by Russia and Ukraine, there is no need to obtain consent or permission from a diplomatic mission or consular office of a foreign state for carrying out investigative actions on the sea or river transport on the territory of Ukraine. We did it legally,” Matios explained.
As it was reported earlier, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) along with Military Prosecutor’s Office detained Russian tanker which blocked Ukrainian Nikopol, Berdyansk and Yanu Kapu in Kerch Strait last autumn. On July 24, NIKA SPIRIT tanker entered Ismail port under the Russian flag. It has been already identified as known tanker NEYMA which was used to block Kerch Strait.
