Court arrests property of Infrastructure Minister Omelyan

Earlier, Omelyan was released on parole and was obliged to surrender his passports

Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv arrested the property of Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure, as Yana Kvitchenko, the press secretary of court, said in the commentary for 112 Ukraine.

“The investigating judge has considered two applications today. The consideration of the appeal was performed in camera and considering the demands of the norms of the procedural law ruling out the possibility to talk about the arrested property in details. The appeals were submitted, considered, arrested,” Kvitchenko said.

At the same time, Mariya Tomko, the Spokesperson of the Infrastructure Ministry, wrote on Facebook that “according to the unconfirmed information, Omelyan’s properties – flat (sq. m.) and the car of the Minister’s brother, was arrested”.

As we reported Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Bureau informed Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan of suspected illicit enrichment.

NABU representatives stated that within the period from January 1, 2000 to April, 26, 2018 Omelyan received $77,500 of official income. And his expenses within the period from 2008 till April 26, 2015 were at least $123,214.

Later, NABU detectives claimed that the crimes of Omelyan are not grave so they will demand to choose the restrictive measure for the minister in the form of bail in the sum of almost $179,000.
