The Obolon District Court of Kyiv allowed the questioning of a number of the former top-ranking officials, including Mykola Azarov, the former Prime Minister on the case of the state treason of Viktor Yanukovych, the former president of Ukraine as 112.ua reported.
The court partially satisfied the motion of the defense. Particularly, they intend to question Andry Klyuev, the former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Vitaly Zakharchenko, the former Interior Minister of Ukraine, Oleksandr Yakymenko, the former Head of the SBU, Pavlo Lebedev, the former Defense Minister. Also, a few dozens of people are mentioned in the list as 'the citizens of Crimea'. According to the lawyers, these people can give their testimonies on the circumstances of the return to Crimea after February 20, 2014, of the citizens of Crimea who participated in the protests in Kyiv.
At the same time, the court refused to satisfy the motion on the questioning of the number of the foreign politicians, diplomats and European officials.
The significant number of the witnesses announced by the Yanukovych's defense is out of the territory of Ukraine, a lot of them are involved in the criminal proceedings.
Previously, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the President Petro Poroshenko and the National Security Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov are among those yet to be interviewed; 23 witnesses are to be interviewed.
Yanukovych is charged with state treason, assistance in deliberate actions against Ukraine’s state border, sovereignty and territorial integrity and assistance in leading the aggressive war against Ukraine.
