Georgian authorities have released two Ukrainian yachtsmen convicted of illegally crossing the state border in 2020. This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on his Twitter.
"Since November 2020, we have been working on the release of Ukrainian yachtsmen Yuriy Khomych and Volodymyr Dyachenko detained in Georgia. Today, Georgia released them from prison," Zelensky wrote.
As it was reported earlier, in November 2020, Georgian border guards detained a yacht sailing to Turkey along the coast of Georgia. Citizens of Ukraine Volodymyr Dyachenko and Yuriy Khomych were on board. Ukrainians have been accused of allegedly illicit crossing the Georgian border. On July 14, 2021, Batumi City Court sentenced Ukrainians to four years in prison.
