The supplies of the contracted coal from Kazakhstan to Ukraine have not yet occurred due to Russia's blockade of the transit route. This was announced by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko at a briefing.

“No, it doesn’t come from Kazakhstan. There is a signed contract with Centrenergo for 660,000 tons of Kazakh coal during the autumn-winter period. But again, due to the relevant actions of the Russian Federation, transit through Russian territory is blocked," he said.

Halushchenko explained that there is no other way to get contracted volumes of coal.

"Accordingly, we and Centerenergo do not yet see other opportunities to physically obtain this coal," he added.

The minister noted that in the meantime, coal supplies by sea are increasing.

Meanwhile, the rate of coal consumption across the globe will not drop over the next three years.

After the decline in the coal energy branch, it seemed that the peak was left behind in 2018. However, 2021 put an end to these hopes. The demand for electric power grows faster than the rate of its production from low-carbon sources. Together with the rapidly growing gas prices, it will lead to the growth of production at coal-driven power stations by 9 per cent in 2022", IEA wrote.

The agency claimed that the restoration after Covid pandemic proved energy-consuming. The energy produced from gas, wind and sunlight is not enough to cover the insane demand for electric power. This is why the world burns coal again, in spite of the complaints of environmental protection activists.
