Famous Ukrainian writer Yuriy Mushketyk died at the age of 90 on May 6, as Mykhaylo Sidorzhevsky, the Chairman of National Writers’ Union of Ukraine, reported on Facebook.
“Some difficult news. Today in the morning Yuriy Mushketyk, one of the classic of Ukraine’s modern literature died. His daughter Lesya has just informed about that. In loving memory dear Yuriy Mykhaylovych,” he noted.
Yuriy Mushketyk was born on March 21, 1929 in Vertiyevka village, Chernihiv region. Since 1956, he worked as a Deputy Editor and Editor-in-Chief of Dnipro magazine. In 1979, he connected his life with National Writers’ Union. First, he worked as a Secretary of the Board of Kyiv office of organization, and then he became the Chairman of the establishment (1986-2001).
He wrote some 20 novels over his life.
He had a series of awards including Hero of Ukraine title.
