NotPetya cyber attack that caused a lot of damage in Ukraine in June 2017 is with “high confidence” an action of Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), The Washington Post writes sourcing classified reports of the CIA.
The media notes that Ukrainian computers constitute more than a half of the attack’s victims. The attack also commenced on Ukraine’s Constitution Day, June 27. Ukrainian airport Boryspil, Ukraine’s postal service, a number of ministries and banking systems were hit by the attack.
It’s seen as a part of Russia’s hybrid warfare, which followed the annexation of Crimea and beginning of military action in Eastern Ukraine.
