The head of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov believes that Ukraine still does not have the instruments to change the situation with protection of rights in occupied Crimea and Donbas. He stated this at the National Human Rights NONconference, as Interfax-Ukraine agency reports.
“We must admit that we could not influence the situation in annexed by Russia Crimea and in Donbas and change it, especially regarding persecution, repression, torture of our citizens. And we cannot do it today. We do not have the tools, and we need to talk about it,” Chubarov said.
As it was reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with the representatives of the Crimean Tatar people and discussed the situation in annexed Crimea. During the meeting, Mustafa Dzhemilev noted that the occupants were trying to pressure the Crimean Tatars. At the same time, the representative of Mejlis asked to raise the issue on creation of monitoring mission on the annexed peninsula at the international stage.
