The incident between Ukrainian military officers and Crimean Tatar’s NGO ‘Asker’ in Chongar city of Kherson region is over and done with. Military officers and police have left ‘Asker’ base. This was reported by head of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov.
But the conflict could have been avoided if Kyiv had created a separate unit of Crimean Tatars in the Armed Forces or in the National Guard of Ukraine, where Crimean citizens and people of other nationalities could serve, according to Chubarov.
“Constant public control conducted by ‘Asker’ NGO was mildly speaking a nuisance for both services. ‘Asker’ activists became unwelcome also for different dealers who established illegal business at the administrative border. They also tried to drive out ‘Asker’ activists from locations they were in,” Chubarov said.
At the same time the military officers announced about finding of the weapon arsenal of doubtful provenance on the territory of ‘Asker’ NGO. This was reported by the acting press service head of the 57th Brigade (34th Battalion accused of 'Asker' assault is a part of it ) Lydia Vasilenko in her comments for InfoResist.
“It’s true, the weapon were seized. The official comment will shortly be voiced. The list of the seized things will be published later. The commander is now at the Chongar checkpoint and he will remain there until the circumstances are clarified,” she reported.
The journalist Olha Peshetylova published the list of the seized weapon in Facebook. “Some of the weapons are announced as lost by Aidar battalion,” she wrote.
Photos of the weapons were soon posted on Facebook page of Katerina Kiwa, daughter of the adviser to Interior Minister Illya Kiwa signed by his initials.
9 Kalashnikov rifles, 2 grenade launchers, 3 machine guns, 2 sniper rifles, 4 Russian man-portable flamethrowers Shmel were mentioned in the list among some other weapons.
Earlier it was reported that the gunmen captured base of Crimean Tatar battalion on border with Crimea. The incident took place in Chongar village, Kherson region.
