Chornobyl exclusion zone: 80% of tourists come from abroad

Almost 75.000 people, including 80% of foreigners, visited Chornobyl exclusion zone during eight months of 2019 as Center of Organization-Technical and Information Provision of Governing of exclusion zone reported.

59.698 people came to the exclusion zone from abroad and 14.973 people from Ukraine.

“Among the foreigners, mostly Chornobyl is visited by the tourists from the UK – 10.381 people. The second place is occupied by Poland with 6.544 people, the third – Germany with 5.399 people, the fourth – America with 4.143 people and Czech Republic with 2.829 people. Other visitors come from Singapore, Chile, Mexico, Japan and others,” the message said.

In August 2019, about 15.000 tourists visited the exclusion zone and it is for five times more than at the beginning of 2019.

Inspired by the tremendous success of Chornobyl TV series, the members of Tourism and Promotions Department of Kyiv City State Administration and local tourism operators developed and presented a new route. It is called "Across the shooting locations of Chornobyl mini-series in Kyiv."
