The Central Election Commission has postponed the beginning of the debates of the candidates for presidency at 9 p.m., as 112 Ukraine reported citing Kateryna Makhnytska, the Commission’s Representative.
“The Central Election Commission was offered to define that the TV debates between the candidates for the presidency in Ukraine… for the cost and within the funds of the state budget of Ukraine allocated for the preparation and holding of the elections of the president of Ukraine, are organized and held by the National TV Company on the last Friday before the repeat voting, on April 19, 2019 at Suspilne TV Channel on air from 9 p.m. up to 10 p.m. with the duration of 60 minutes of the continues air time,” Makhnytska said.
According to the law, the TV debates on Suspilne TV Channel should take place on April 19 at 8 p.m.
On April 3, Zelensky replied to Poroshenko's invitation to participate in debates and put forward his conditions. He wanted to hold debates at Olympiysky Stadium. Poroshenko’s team said, “the President does not perform at stadiums”. A few hours later Poroshenko changed his mind and agreed to participate in the debates.
On April 7, Poroshenko stated that he waits for Volodymyr Zelensky on April 14 at Olympiysky Stadium.
In his turn, Zelensky stated he wanted to hold the debates with Poroshenko on April 19 at Olympiysky Stadium.
On April 10, Olympiysky Stadium reported that it got two applications for holding debates from two presidential candidates Volodymyr Zelensky and Petro Poroshenko.
Presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky reported that free tickets for the fan zone at NSC Olimpiysky stadium are now available. Thus, some viewers will be able to watch the debates between Zelensky and the incumbent president Petro Poroshenko on the stadium for free.
The debates are to take place on Friday, April 19.
