The Supreme Court of Ukraine within the Cassation District Court suspended the investigation of Mikheil Saakashvili’s, ex-President of Georgia, leader of Movement of New Forces party, lawsuit against Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko, requesting to repeal his decree on depriving the politician of Ukrainian citizenship, as Interfax-Ukraine reports.
During the session on Friday, Saakashvili’s lawyers appealed to challenge the composition of the court, as they think that there were violations during the process of creating this judgeship.
The court decided to hand the request over to another judgeship of the Cassation District Court. This is why the investigation of Saakashvili’s lawsuit is suspended.
As 112.international reported earlier, Mostysky District Court of Lviv region found Mikheil Saakashvili guilty of illegal crossing of Ukraine’s border on September 22, 2017. In January 2018, the District Administrative Court of Kyiv refused politician’s request to Ukraine’s Migration Service, the one to recognize him a refugee status. On February 6, the District Administrative Court of Kyiv refused Saakashvili’s appeal to the decision of the Migration Service not to recognize him a refugee.
Saakashvili was arrested and readmitted to Poland on February, 12.
After this, he said that he wouldn’t ask Poland for political asylum. On the other hand, he wants to restore Ukrainian citizenship.
A few days ago, Saakashvili received an ID card in the Netherlands.
