Law enforcement officers detained a car attempting to enter Ukraine through a border checkpoint in Donetsk oblast, containing a backpack stuffed with munitions, as the Pokrovsk police department in Donetsk oblast informs.
“At the border checkpoint the police officers stopped an Opel SUV for checking. A 23-year-old inhabitant of Sumy oblast was driving the car. The driver assured the police officers he wasn’t carrying anything forbidden, and there was no point in inspecting the car thoroughly,” the message says.
According to the police, in the car there was a backpack, containing a smoke bomb, a flare, 8 grenades of different type, 18 fuses for grenades, and 41 bullets for an AK-47.
“The owner of the dangerous baggage explained, that he was giving a ride to unknown men, and “they probably forgot it”. The veracity of his testimony will be tested during the pre-trial investigation,” the press service explained.
Criminal proceeding under part 1 Article 263 “Unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives” of Ukraine’s Criminal Code were started. The suspect faces up to 7 years of imprisonment.
