Governor-General of Canada Julie Payette will visit Ukraine in the near future. This was reported on Twitter by the press service of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

"Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Julie Payette will travel to Ukraine and Latvia from January 17 to 19," the message says.

It is expected that in Ukraine, she will meet with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Canadian soldiers who serve in the frameworks of the UNIFIER operation.

Julie Payette was appointed the 29th Governor General of Canada in July last year. She took office on October 2.

As it was reported earlier Canadian Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan said that the country’s government is looking for ways to expand its military assistance to Ukraine, one of the stages of which was opening access to the Canadian arms market.

According to the minister, he continues working with his Ukrainian counterpart Stepan Poltorak to expand military support to the country.
