The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has appointed Tetiana Monakhova a State Language Commissioner. Verkhovna Rada MP from the European Solidarity faction Oleksiy Honcharenko reported this on Facebook.
“The Cabinet of Ministers appointed Tetiana Monakhova the Commissioner for Protection of State Language,” Honcharenko wrote.
Ministry of Culture of Ukraine proposed the candidacy of Tetiana Monakhova. Monakhova worked as the Head of the Department of Journalism at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University in Mykolaiv.
Tetiana Monakhova was born in Mykolaiv on July 2, 1980. In 2002, she graduated from the Mykolaiv V.O.Sukhomlynskyi National University in the specialty “Teacher of Ukrainian language and literature and English and foreign literature.”
The position of Language Ombudsman is stipulated by the Law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language.”
As it was reported earlier, the position of the Commissioner for Protection of State Language will soon be created in Ukraine. Among the main tasks of the new Ombudsman is to protect the Ukrainian language as a state language, protect the right of Ukrainian citizens to receive information and public services in the state language. There is already a candidate for the new position.
The Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian Language as State Language” provides for the position of the Commissioner for Protection of State Language. The Ombudsman is appointed and dismissed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
