President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the preservation and restoration of forests. Under this program, a billion trees are to be planted in three years. President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a relevant decree during the ‘Ukraine 30’ forum.

"We have set an ambitious, but I am sure, an achievable goal - to increase the area of ​​forests by one million hectares in 10 years. In order to do this, we want to plant one billion trees in Ukraine in the next three years. I want to sign a decree to start this program right here at our meeting, "Zelensky said.

Zelensky also signed a law banning the use of plastic bags in Ukraine.

In addition, the president stated that Ukraine is conducting a full audit of all subsoil use permits, and announced a comprehensive audit of water resources and state monitoring of all major rivers in the country.

Earlier, it was reported that over the last three decades, some 420 million hectares of forest have been lost all over the globe.
