U.S. President Joe Biden said that the situation in Donbas does not exclude the possibility of Ukraine's accession to NATO. He said this during the briefing in Brussels, where today, on June 14, the summit of North Atlantic Alliance countries' leaders took place.
At the same time, Biden stressed that it depends on whether Ukraine would meet the criteria:
"The fact is, they still have to clean up corruption, the fact is they have to meet other criteria to get into the action plan," he said.
In the meantime, Biden said that the United States would do all that it can to put Ukraine in the position to be able to continue to resist Russian physical aggression.
According to the president, NATO will continue to support the sovereignty of Ukraine.
Whether or not Ukraine can become part of NATO will depend on the Alliance and how the member countries vote.
