Ambassador of Ukraine in Germany Andriy Melnyk has sharply spoken about the unwillingness of Berlin to help Ukraine with weapons. According to him, it deprives Germany of the possibility to influence any processes as .loyal reported.
“We should significantly invest in our defense. It is unfortunate that Germany stands aside and enacts as some “moral apostle”. We would like to purchase modern German military systems. However, due to political opportunism, it is impossible and it is devastating. The existing Berlin taboo for the supply of weapons should be broken,” Melnyk stated.
He also noted that the support of Ukraine by Germany in the defense sphere with the new military systems would completely meet the German interest: “Otherwise, Germany isolates itself and deprives itself of the possibility to influence any processes”.
As we reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reproached Germany due to the refusal to supply weapons to Ukraine in the interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
The German government in its turn underlined its support of the settlement of the Donbas Conflict through a political way.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas responded to President Volodymyr Zelensky's request for arms supplies to Ukraine. According to the German Foreign Minister, arms supplies will not help resolve the conflict in Donbas.
"Since 2014, we have strengthened Ukraine in the civil sector by almost 2 billion euros. At the same time, I am convinced that the conflict in Donbas can only be resolved politically. And it should be clear to all the participants, it remains our guideline. Nothing will change in this regard. The supply of weapons will not help here," the minister said.
