Belarusian diplomat, expelled from Ukraine, was the first secretary of the Belarusian Embassy in Ukraine, and he has already left the country. Speaker of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry Mariana Betsa said this on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
"This situation is connected with the case of Pavlo Sharoyko. Russian side deported our diplomat of Ukrainian Embassy of Belarus. Guided by the principle of mutuality, Ukraine expelled Belarusian diplomat, this is the first secretary of the Belarusian Embassy in Ukraine, and he has already left the country," she said.
Betsa also explained why the choice fell on this diplomat.
"As a rule, more or less equivalent positions are retained in diplomatic practice on expelling diplomats," she added.
As it was reported earlier Belarus announced the advisor of Ukrainian Embassy in Minsk Ihor Skvortsov persona non-grata due to the detention of the Ukrainian Radio's special correspondent Pavlo Sharoyko.
The KGB also said that Sharoyko allegedly confirmed that "coordination of his intelligence activities" was carried out by Skvortsov, who was called in the Belarusian department an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and he acted allegedly under cover of the post of adviser to the embassy of Ukraine in Belarus.
