Patriarch Bartholomew has already arrived in Ukraine. His plane landed at Boryspil airport. However, the Ukrainians are not too happy about such a visit and greeted him with massive protests.
The believers began to rally at the airport. Many people also stood on the Kyiv-Boryspil highway, along which a motorcade with Bartholomew, accompanied by law enforcement officers, was heading to the capital.
In the same place, the police obstructed the peaceful rally of the believers and took away their posters calling on the patriarch not to take part in the church discord in Ukraine.
In addition, people gathered in the center of Kyiv - on Lypska Street and Mykhailivska Square near the Intercontinental Hotel, where Bartholomew can stay.
The Patriarch was invited to the country by President Volodymyr Zelensky, but believers believe that the head of state has no right to interfere in church affairs, and the only canonical church in Ukraine is the UOC.
A wave of protests against the arrival of Patriarch Bartholomew swept across Ukraine. According to believers, Ukraine is now experiencing the second church schism in the last 30 years - believers are again deprived of the right to pray and visit churches restored by their ancestors, and Patriarch Bartholomew bears personal responsibility for what is happening.
On July 15, 2021, 310 participants of the monastic congress from 258 monasteries and 56 sketes, farmsteads and communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church gathered in the great Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra to discuss pressing issues of monastic life, as well as to respond to the processes in world Orthodoxy that undermine the unity of the Orthodox Church. As a result of the meeting, it was decided to contact Bartholomew with a request to reconsider his decision on the Tomos for Ukraine.
At the same time, a video clip of mass protests and numerous actions against the arrival of the patriarch has already appeared in the media.
