Kyiv Solomenskiy District Court has again set aside the arrest of the real property which belongs to Arsen Avakov’s, Internal Minister, son Oleksandr suspected of embezzling money during the purchase of backpacks for National Guard, as the Court’s decision states.
According to the decision the Court canceled the arrest of three parking slots and two apartments. The decision cannot be appealed.
As it was reported earlier, Oleksandr Avakov is suspected of embezzling over $536 thousand from the budget during the purchase of the backpacks for National Guards in 2015. Serhiy Chobotar, former Deputy Internal Minister, and Volodymyr Lytvyn, the representative of the backpacks supply tender winner company, are suspected of the same crime.
The General Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal proceeding on the case of backpacks purchase for our soldiers in Donbas in June 2015. According to journalist Roman Bochkala, the Internal Ministry has purchased backpacks $114 each for around $536 thousand in total. Later, a video with a conversation of the individuals similar to Serhiy Chobotar and Oleksandr Avakov and one more person appeared on YouTube. They were negotiating on backpacks supply before the tender was held.
The Court imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of a personal commitment to wear an electronic bracelet. The same restraint was imposed on Chobotar. Kyiv Solomenskiy District Court arrested the real property of Oleksandr Avakov, Chobotar and Lytvyn in the early November in 2017.
Kyiv Court of Appeal canceled the arrest of Avakov’s son property in December 2017.
Later, it was reported that the Court has again seized the property of Avako’s son on April 5. It was about three parking slots in Kyiv underground parking and two apartments in Kyiv and Kharkiv.
