Conflict in Sea of Azov

During the attack in the Kerch Strait on November 25, Russian soldiers fired on Ukrainian ships with a large-caliber cannon. The lawyer Ilya Novikov reported this on the Ekho Moskvy radio station, citing the words of his client, the Ukrainian sailor Roman Mokryak who was detained as a result of the incident.

“The Russian side is trying to pose this situation to us like this: ”We have seen that they violate the border, we must stop it ...” This “must stop” resulted in firing from a large-caliber cannon. According to the observations of my client Roman Mokryak, about 1,200 shells were fired," Novikov noted.

He added that the Russian border ship Izumrud was firing at the Ukrainian ships. To avoid shelling, the Ukrainian ships began to disperse at sea, and one of the Border Guard ships of the Russian Federation went after Berdyansk, one of the Ukrainian vessels.
