Austria ready to facilitate speeding up Ukraine’s receipt of vaccines under COVAX initiative

Federal President of the Republic of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen in a telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, reaffirmed willingness to facilitate speeding up Ukraine’s receipt of vaccines under the COVAX initiative, as the President’s Office reported.

"The most important thing is that this vaccine is effective and of high quality. The sooner Ukraine receives new batches of vaccines, the sooner vaccination will be carried out in our country," the Ukrainian President said.

The President of Ukraine also stressed the importance of keeping the attention of the world community to the development of the situation on the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea and informed the interlocutor about the Crimean Platform initiative.

"Volodymyr Zelensky invited the President of Austria and his wife to take part in the inaugural summit of the initiative, which will take place in August 2021 in Kyiv, and in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence," the message reads. 

As we reported earlier, the Health Ministry of Ukraine has purchased 6.5 million express tests for Covid-19 antigen; 4.3 million tests were distributed to regional state health establishments.

Besides, Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko stated that Ukraine expects the supply of another 1.8 million express tests that will be distributed between the health establishments regardless of the form of ownership and sole proprietors.

“Soon, the supply will be held of over 350,000 express tests for provision of needs of checkpoints to temporarily occupied territories of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions and Sevastopol,” Lyashko said.
